diving into Holidailies

Christmas 1979

I'm going to follow my own Holidailies prompt and introduce myself. Perhaps if I start off on the right foot, I'll update every day this year and then update this site regularly and then ... yeah, I know. Stop smirking, you.

Hi, I'm Jette, and this is my personal site that I hardly ever update anymore. Once upon a time, more than 10 years ago, I started "online journalling," which meant that I posted all kinds of personal and intimate stuff under a pseudonym, and I used to post a lot more frequently, too. I wrote about my job, and various friends and family, and my pathetic attempts at a love life, and the baby raccoons that were living under my bathtub. I figured I was protected by a pseudonym, and the fact that my relatives weren't much interested in the Internet world.

Over the years, various things happened. Many people learned that you must be very careful when writing about your job, lest your employers read your writing and decide not to employ you anymore. My friends and family paid more attention to the Web, and I thought they might not take kindly to certain stories. I actually started dating someone, and decided I didn't want to share the more personal details -- plus, he was reading too. I moved into a house with no baby raccoons (whew).

To make up for the lack of entries about spicier personal stuff, I started writing about movies. I wrote stuff about movies for my blog for awhile, and then I started writing professionally. I work part-time as a film critic and entertainment writer now. Full-time technical writer during the day, film writer on some nights and weekends, even a food writer on rare occasion for a local publication. So my poor personal blogs have been neglected, and I'm hoping to give this one a shot in the arm during Holidailies. Or a kick in the pants. Pick your metaphor.

I've been married for about two and a half years. We have a cat. We spend a lot of time on the computer. I have too many books. We eat too much pie. Can there really be such a thing as too much pie?

Last year I posted a whopping 15 entries for Holidailies; my goal is to post more frequently than last year. I may post a lot of photos ... who knows? Tune in again and find out.

No! There can never be too much pie.

Twin Peaks and John Travolta in Michael made me believe in pie and a cuppa joe...never too much pie.

Sometime in 2002 you taught me the meaning of the word blog, Jette - loved the family stories, love the movie posts, too. And really love that photo!

Happy Holidailies.
